Style Tips for Professional Headshots

  1. Dress Like you would for a interview or audition.
  2. Avoid Overly-Casual Clothing.
  3. Avoid Older, Worn-Out Clothing.
  4. Stick with Simple Jewelry.
  5. Ditch the Undershirt and “Floppy Collar”. A clean pressed shirt (no wrinkles) is best.
  6. Avoid busy patterns and white clothing unless you wear with a dark blazer/jacket.
  7. Make sure your hair is neat and styled the way you want it. Also Patting down nose and forehead reduces shine.
  8. Rest - You want to look rested, confident and energized in your headshot. Try to go to bed earlier the day before your headshot to make sure you at least get your 8 hours of sleep.
  9. Relax, Smile and look confident. Stretching beforehand helps to avoid stiff posture.

Clean Pressed shirt photographs best.

A “floppy collar” can make a headshot look sloppy, even if you’re dressed perfectly otherwise.

Especially if you’re not wearing a tie, make sure your collar is stiff.

Best to ditch the undershirt.

.Your Best Look

  • What to wear: Avoid white clothing unless you wear with a dark blazer. Solid colors photograph better than busy patterns. A clean pressed shirt and dark blazer always photographs great. Simple colors and subtle patterns usually look best on everyone. Bold or busy patterns tend to distract from your face.
  • How to accessorize: Less is more when it comes to jewelry and makeup. If you wear glasses most of the time, you're welcome to wear them. If you keep a clean shave, shave as close to your session as possible, and check for extra growth on your ears, nose, eyebrows.
